On the left is a photo of Sophie Kay, a 27-year-old personal trainer from East London. On the right is another photo of Sophie, taken 3 minutes later! Yep, you read that right, 3 minutes later. Her before and after shot is not what you would expect a before and after shot to be, you’d assume that she’d put in a lot of hard work – changed her diet and upped her exercise, where is actual fact all she did was change her underwear, her lighting and her pose.
She’s written a post about it on her Tumblr site “This Blog is Sophie’s Blog” titled “Debunking Fitness Myths” wear she talks about the preconceived notions of what a personal trainer looks like and how they should live.
The before and after shot was my favourite part of the article, as I saw it not long after I had read an article on Cracked about the “5 Insane Realities Behind the Scenes of a Weight Loss Ad” in which it goes into detail about the ridiculous extremes the actresses/actors go to in order to portray the before and afters to trick the public into believing that their weight loss plan, pills, potions or exercise equipment will give you the same results. The infomercial might state you only have to exercise 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week, however, they have been exercising 6 hours a day and eating nothing! Sophie’s photo showed just what a crock of shit those photo’s can be. With the right light, the right clothes and the right angles you can look your best just as you are now.
Now, I’m not saying don’t make healthy changes in your life, I’m merely wanting to point out that you should take it a little easier on yourself and not compare yourselves to the after photo’s that you see all over the internet and in magazines (these are words I need to take on board myself because I am guilty of doing it) and remember, if you want to look like the after photo, just make sure you smile, as that automatically makes everyone look better – why do you think they make a point of making people frown in the before photo!?!?
